Dental decay and gum disease are preventable. The purpose of our Smiling Lavender Programme is to give our patients an opportunity to improve their oral health and reduce their risk of tooth decay and gum disease.
During a 30-minute session our highly experienced and specially qualified oral health educator will assess your diet and tooth-brushing techniques and provide practical advice to improve these to reduce the risk of decay and gum disease. She may ask you to chew disclosing tablets, which will temporarily stain any decay-causing plaque on your teeth. She will then discuss various plaque removal techniques with you. A large body of research has demonstrated that effective removal of dental plaque can significantly reduce the risk of tooth decay and gum disease.
If appropriate, the oral health educator may apply a thin coating of fluoride varnish on your teeth using a small soft brush. This simple procedure is proven to reduce the risk of decay significantly and strengthen the surface of the teeth.
The aim of the sessions is to provide individually targeted advice and support especially for people susceptible to gum disease and tooth decay. Therefore, the content of the sessions may vary from person to person, depending on their needs and circumstances.
The sessions are designed to benefit all our patients, including children and those at higher risk of decay or gum disease. Sessions cost £30 per person (one parent of a child can attend for free). For certain groups the sessions are free to attend. If you wish to book an appointment or have any questions about the sessions, please click here or give us a call.
