Training for Dental Nurses
Lavender Training Centre welcomes all trainee nurses to study and prepare for the NEBDN diploma in dental nursing. This course was set up in June 2008 when the requirement for all UK dental nurses to have a qualification was introduced.

In November 2011 our first students sat the examination and we were extremely pleased with our high pass rate.

Our tutors

Our tutors are two experienced and qualified dental nurses, and a dental surgeon who has been qualified for over 30 years. They run the course on a private basis.

Frequently asked questions

Tell me more about the course

The course is open to all dental nurses who want to study towards a national diploma in dental nursing. It covers all aspects of the work with which dental nurses need to be familiar (a copy of the syllabus is available on request). It also provides students with record of experience support. To gain the diploma, you must be employed as a trainee dental nurse and must complete a record of experience as well as passing the examination. The examination currently consists of a written paper and an OSCE examination. Our syllabus complies with the General Dental Council (GDC) and National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN) dental nurse curriculum. It is currently being reviewed by the GDC to complement the new style of examination; however the content will remain the same. The examination is largely based on students being able to apply the knowledge they have learnt in a practical setting. We have a wide range of facilities for students, including a fully stocked library and internet access. We also invite students to arrange private tutoring on a one-to-one basis at a small additional cost per session, if they feel they need extra help.

How long is the course?

The course runs for nine months and starts in March. Students aim to sit the exam in November of the same year.

Is there an entry level?

No. Dental nurses attending the course must be in current employment.

How is the course run?

The course runs over one evening session a week. You are expected to attend each one. If you cannot attend a session, you must give prior notice so work can be handed out accordingly. The course consists of all the content needed to pass the examination, including record of experience support, theoretical and practical lessons and homework to help structure the learning process.

How much does it cost?

The total cost is £1520. This includes all the textbooks you need, your record of experience and entry to both parts of the exam.
